How to measure my walls for wallpaper?

To find our how much wallpaper you need, the very first thing you need to do is measure the height and width of yours walls.

Measuring the height and width of a wall for hanging murals can vary depending on the type of wall and the complexity of the installation. Here are some general guidelines for measuring different types of walls.

Straight Walls

Measure the height of the wall from the floor to the ceiling or desired mural placement point. Then, measure the width of the wall from one corner to the other. If there are any doors or windows, do not subtract their measurements as the mural wallpaper should be continuous around these obstacles.

Sloped or Slanted Walls (e.g., Attic Walls)

Measure the height and width at the tallest and widest points.

Curved Walls

For curved walls, use a flexible measuring tape or a string to follow the curve accurately and capture the width and height.

Staircases

When measuring a wall along a staircase, it's best to measure both the vertical and horizontal aspects. Measure the height of the wall along the staircase's slope. Measure the width at widest points.  In regards to railings or other obstacles, do not subtract their measurements as the mural wallpaper should also be continuous around these spaces.

Irregular Shaped Walls

For walls with irregular shapes, always measure key points such as the highest, and widest points.

Multiple Walls and Corners

When working with multiple walls or corners, measure each wall individually and note the dimensions for each section. Take measurements from corner to corner, and be sure to account for any irregularities.

Ceiling Height Variation

If your mural extends to areas with different ceiling heights, measure each section separately. Account for wallpaper considering the height of the highest point.

Add Extra for Overlap and Trim

Always add a little extra to your measurements to account for trimming and overlapping wallpaper during installation.

Double-Check and Confirm

It's crucial to double-check your measurements to ensure accuracy, especially for large murals.

Remember to use a reliable measuring tape or laser measure for accurate measurements. It's also a good practice to consult the manufacturer's installation instructions for any specific guidelines regarding measurements and installation techniques for your particular mural or wallpaper. If you're unsure, consider seeking professional help to ensure a precise and successful installation.

The total area will be equal to the order units. Let's say for example,  your wall measures 3 m (9.8 ft) width and 2.4 m (7.9 ft) height. Include a few 5 cm (2 in) for errors in measuring. To get the area, multiply 3.05 m (10 ft) width times 2.45 m (8ft) height and that is equal to 7.47 sq. m. (80 sq. ft) Round up and you need 8 sq. m or 8 units of Mural Wallpaper (80 sq. ft).
