Frequently Asked Questions when Ordering Wallpaper

How much wallpaper do I need to order?

For ordering murals, calculate the surface of mural wallpaper you will need by multiplying your wall width times your wall height. At Forest Homes, the square meters is the purchase unit for custom murals. If you have several walls simply add the surface of your walls together to place your order. See more about how much wallpaper you'll need here.

How to calculate the surface of your wall?

To calculate the surface of your wall, you'll need to measure the wall(s) width and height. To produce your mural, we'll need the measurements of your wall, to then print your wallpaper slightly larger to account for any uneven walls or minor measuring errors. Please learn more on how to calculate the surface of your wall if dealing with irregularities, slanted, curved or multiple walls here.

What do I do if I have a sloping wall or a wall that isn’t square or rectangle?

Having a wall of unusual shape is not a problem for you to hang a wallpaper mural. You simply need to measure the widest and tallest part of your wall to get the height and width. When you come to hang the wallpaper, you simply need to trim away the excess paper.

How will I know you have the correct measures to customise my mural?

When you make your order, you should expressly note your wall measurements in the order note. If you didn't send us your measurements, we will come back to you shortly with an email to confirm your wallpaper measures.

If required, we can include a proof image showing how your wallpaper mural will look on your wall measures. If you need any changes making at this point then you simply need to let us know. When you're finally satisfied with the image result, we will proceed to print your wallpaper right away.

Can I customise my mural with my own images or special edits?

Yes, we can produce wallpaper with your own images. If you would like to customise your mural then please do not hesitate to contact us with your requirements and our designers can help.

An additional graphic customization fee will be applied according to the required work.

What kind of images can be printed on your wallpaper?

In order to print large wallpaper murals, we need large high resolution images, ideally full size at a minimum of 100dpi.  If you have a small image, you can’t simply enlarge it because this will make it blurry, so as well as being a good size, your image must also be nice and clear to get the best quality print. Feel free to email your image to us at hello@foresthomesstore.com, and we can tell you whether your image is suitable or not.

How wide are the wallpaper strips/panels?

Our custom wallpaper and mural strips/panels come 1 m (3.24ft) wide drops. This is slightly wider than normal wallpaper which makes the hanging process quicker and gives a better final finish. For standard size wallpaper, this could be 49 cm or 1m wide drops.

    How is my wallpaper packed?

Your wallpaper will arrive on a roll that is sectioned off into vertical drops that fit your wall height. These drops are simply matched up next to each other on the wall to create the full finished mural.

Are the colours seen on screen accurate?

There can be some variation between computer monitors and the final printed product. This is due to individual brightness and colour intensity settings, however, this is usually very minimal.

Colours can also look slightly different depending on the material they are printed on. Effects in wallpaper like gloss and matte finishes are difficult to transfer to a product photo. So, if you want to be sure the product is what you expect, please order a sample before hand. Also note that, made to order products (i.e. custom wallpaper) cannot be returned.

Are their colour variances between prints?

As printers go through regular cleaning cycles, please note that there can be colour variances between samples and the actual order you receive. This is also applicable if you need to order an additional paper due to a mistake in your wall measurements.

How long will my wallpaper take to arrive?

We usually take 7-15 working days to customise, produce and deliver our murals.
If your wallpaper has a special graphic customization, the delivery range will start from the moment you approve your custom design.

How do you assure the sustainability and health safety in the production of your wallpapers?

All of our papers are sustainably sourced and our toner is water based, so 100% environmentally friendly. Also, we produce every custom wallpaper according to every order, therefore, we reduce production waste.
Additionally, our murals use certified environmental friendly inks and paper.

The water-based latex inks used in our new digital print wallpapers are non-toxic and completely odourless. This not only guarantees pure room air only, is also the best practice for the environment. This is confirmed by the Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certification®, which the inks of our Eco-Murals are certified with.

The Certification of our eco murals by Greenguard is Gold: Product Certified for Low Chemical Emissions UL.com/GG. UL.2828. It is also Certified Ecologo, this means our murals are certified for reduced environmental impact. View specific attributes evaluated: UL.com/EL. UL.2801

Also, these murals have been awarded the "Confidence in Textiles" certificate (textiles successfully tested for harmful substances according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and Oeko-Tex Standard 1000) and are FSC® -certified, which guarantees sustainable forestry.

How do I install the wallpaper?

The hanging process is is much the same as any other conventional wallpaper, using normal wallpaper paste, and matching each drop of wallpaper to the next until the mural is complete.

A full detailed step by step guide is included with every purchase, which explains the simple hanging process in full, making it very simple even for a novice.

Watch a summary video of wallpaper installation here.

You can also download our fully detailed installation guide with troubleshooting here.

Does the wallpaper cause damage to the wall?

Our wallpaper has both very simple installation and removal methods. It can be easily removed without leaving any trace once you're ready to switch things up. In most cases, you can even remove the wallpaper entirely and install it anywhere else you like!

Can I hang my own wallpaper murals, or should I hire a professional?

It depends. Most wallpapers are now hung by the consumers themselves. By following our recommendations, and the step-by-step directions, you can hang your own wall coverings and have excellent results. In fact, our wallpapers and mural wallpaper are not at all not difficult to hang. Nonetheless, there are certain types of architectural situations (elaborate stairwells, difficult corners, for example) where a professional could be hired for better results.

Should I book a decorator prior to receiving my mural?

Most of our murals are custom made and printed once and order has been paid for. We recommend that our custom mural customers wait until they receive their mural prior to booking a decorator. Once your mural arrives, please check your mural prior to installation to ensure that everything has arrived as ordered.

What kind of glue/adhesive should be used to hang the wallpaper murals?

A standard ready mix wallpaper adhesive should be used. This is available in all DIY stores. We normally enjoy natural wallpaper pastes with adhesion power that serve light to heavy wallpapers. Most of our custom wallpapers include the wallpaper paste.

The wallpaper paste will be used in a paste the wall technique. This means that instead of applying paste to each panel and having to soak your paper in water, making it heavy, messy, and challenging to work with, with paste the wall you simply apply adhesive to the wall and stick the sheets of dry wallpaper on top.

Can I hang wallpaper over old paneling?

Yes, you can even hang over wall tile, brick, cinder block and textured walls. While there are a number of methods, the simplest is to use what is called lining paper. This is a special type of blank wall covering stock that is hung over the paneling (or tile, etc.) to provide a smooth surface over which your regular wall covering is then hung. You'll be amazed at how much brighter a panelled room will look when the old paneling is covered with wallpaper.

Are there any special preparations I should make to my walls before hanging wallpaper?

Yes, in fact, proper surface preparation will make it easier for you to hang your wallpaper, and it also plays a very important role in assuring satisfactory results. Basic preparation steps include patching any cracks and/or nail holes, washing any greasy or dirty areas, and using a primer/sealer made to be used under wallpaper. There are other steps that should be taken with new plaster walls, new drywall and other surfaces including paneling and tile walls. Learn more about more wall preparation here.
