How Angela Turned a Texas Pasture into a Forest-Inspired Retreat

How Angela Turned a Texas Pasture into a Forest-Inspired Retreat

When Angela and Craig moved to their dream property—a wide-open Texas pasture—they had big plans for their home.

But as they settled in, the absence of trees created a challenge.

Here’s how they transformed a barren landscape into a lush, nature-inspired interior sanctuary, starting with a mural that brought the forest indoors.

The Challenge: A Home Without Trees

“We bought an abandoned cow pasture—completely empty. Not a single tree!” Angela recalls. “We love our property, but it felt so bare.”

To compensate, they planted wildflowers for color and wildlife. But the lack of trees still influenced their interior design choices:

  • Earthy tones to bring warmth
  • Lush greens for depth
  • Natural textures to evoke the outdoors

“We wanted to feel like we were living among trees,” Angela says.

“The absence of trees influenced everything we wanted inside the house, especially the family room”

The Solution: The Bois Brumeux Mural

Enter the Bois Brumeux Mural, a forest-inspired wall covering that instantly added depth, serenity, and visual warmth.

“We had two blank walls beside our TV and fireplace. Splitting the mural in half turned it into two art panels—it framed the fireplace beautifully,” Angela explains.

Why it works:
✔ Creates an immersive natural view indoors
✔ Adds visual layers and texture to a neutral palette
Complements earthy materials like wood blinds and linen accents

“We wanted to bring the outdoors in.”

Styling Secrets from Angela’s Project

Angela didn’t stop at the mural—she styled the entire space for a biophilic experience:

  • Color Harmony: Pink tones in the mural inspired floral accents with wisteria and moss.

  • Layered Nature: Mossy green globe lamp + woven blinds (still on the way!) for texture and softness.

  • Balanced Layout: Splitting the mural into two panels kept symmetry around the TV wall.

Pro Tip: “Measure, measure, measure. It ensures everything fits and looks intentional.”

“It worked beautifully—like two paintings framing the fireplace”

Products That Bring This Look to Life

Bois Brumeux Mural Wallpaper – for an instant forest atmosphere
Moss Green Lighting – nature’s textures meet soft glow
Linen Curtains – organic layers for warmth and light control
Floral Arrangements with Moss – subtle color and botanical accents

“They reminded me of flower petals, so I paired them with a floral arrangement of pink wisteria and forest moss around a mossy green globe lamp”

Why This Works for Wellbeing

Angela didn’t just design for aesthetics—she designed for mental and sensory wellbeing. Studies show that biophilic interiors reduce stress and boost mood (Kellert & Calabrese, 2015). By surrounding herself with natural imagery, soft greens, and organic textures, Angela created a calming space that promotes relaxation and comfort.

Angela’s Advice for Future Designers

“Pick a design that makes you happy. And measure everything—it’s the key to a smooth installation!”

Angela and Craig love their new space and highly recommend Forest Homes: “Their designs are stunning, the quality is excellent, and the customer service is fantastic.”

“Pick a design that makes you happy! And measure, measure, measure—it makes everything easier.”
