Can planting seeds teach us life lessons?

Forest Homes - Natural Home Decor - Design for Wellbeing - The life teaching lessons that come with planting seeds

We start from zero and we build on this one little task, on to the next and before we know it, we accomplish great, beautiful things. Imagine a marathon runner. She or he begins training with this one run, to then perform a longer one, and on to the next. Before he/she knows it, she/he will have successfully completed a 42km (26mile) running challenge.

This is just how life is. Planting a seed may seem like a challenging and even daunting task. However, all you need to do is start with one seed, then plant another one and take care of these seeds. Before you know it, you will see little sprouts of green greeting you in what just to be just an empty and lifeless soil.

Life teaching lessons from planting seeds

Like life itself, planting is best performed with a great practice of patience, embracing change and appreciation of what all things have to offer us. Here are some lessons that we can learn from planting:

Patience: Give time for your seeds- as well as your dream projects- to grow.

A garden does not grow in just one day, neither are our dream life projects. However, if we focus on the progress and the positives- similar what it would be seeing seeds that start peeking out from the ground in the form new things- we will start seeing the advancement we make in our journeys towards the life we want.

Embracing change: Embrace your surroundings and your transformations

Seeds do not stay seeds forever. In their given nourishing soil, water conditions and sunlight exposure, seeds will start becoming what they are meant to become. In our lives, we must embrace our current conditions, to then adopt the transformations that will take place. This will allow us to really experience positive change. We need to have confidence in "knowing that we will always take on a better form, even if it takes time".

Appreciation: Recognise the beauty in all things

When a seed undergoes a transformation, everyone appreciates it for whatever it is its new form. Every seed seed has something unique to give, to contribute. "And how did it get to this point? With time and a transformative change".

Planting seeds let us set something into motion, it lets us create life. This is a powerful and rewarding feeling that can be simply experienced, just by planting a seed.

Not only great for adults but great for children

Planting seeds is a great activity for both adults and kids. Little ones love to be part of the process: from tucking seeds into the soil, watering them daily, waiting for them to grow, and finally watching the first signs of green popping from the soil. Both adults and children are taught about care by having to nurture the plants, making sure they get plenty of water and light. These are valuable lessons as human beings, not to mention the more technical aspects about environmental conditions. By the simple act of planting, children can learn further about:

  • suitable conditions for plants' growth,
  • identifying plants' major parts,
  • caring for plant seeds and for the growing seedlings,
  • recording measurements and observations of growth,
  • and how the love and care needed for plants is similar to that needed by humans.

Nature teaches us many lessons. Planting is one that can be done easily and it let us experience wonderful things. See it for yourself and tell us what you have learned in the comments bellow. Start planting now. Learn how we help you here
